What Is the Kids Mini Myers IV?

The Kids Mini Myers is Las Vegas Mobile IV Therapy's IV treatment for children. We bring it to your home, hotel, resort or vacation rental anywhere in the Las Vegas metro, and you can book online or by phone. The treatment itself takes 60 minutes.

An IV bypasses digestion entirely. The fluid goes into a vein, so it does not depend on your child's stomach.

How it works

How Does a Kids IV Visit Work?

Here is how a Kids Mini Myers visit runs, from booking to the end of the treatment.

  1. 1

    Book Online or Call

Choose a time online, or call 725‑217‑4236 and we will book the visit for you.

  2. 245 to 60 min

    Your Nurse Comes to You

A licensed RN with pediatric experience comes to your home or hotel with everything needed for the treatment.

  3. 360 min

    Assessment, Then the IV

Your nurse assesses your child before starting treatment, and then your child rests while the IV runs.

  4. 4

    Done Where You Are

When the treatment ends, your nurse packs up. There is no clinic, no waiting room and no drive home.

How Do Children Get Dehydrated?

These are three everyday situations where children lose fluid. If your child is losing fluid and can't keep up with drinks, call 725‑217‑4236 and ask whether the Kids Mini Myers is right for them.

  • Summer Heat

Las Vegas summers are hot, and children are at greater risk of dehydration than adults. Because we come to you, your child can stay out of the heat for the whole visit.

  • A Stomach Bug

Vomiting and diarrhea both cause a child to lose fluid. Oral rehydration is the first thing to try for mild to moderate dehydration, and IV fluids are the next step when it is not working.

  • A Long Flight

Low cabin humidity and pressure increase the water your family loses through the skin and breath on a long flight into Las Vegas. We can come to your hotel after you land.

What the Research Says

Is an IV Better Than Drinks for a Sick Child?

Not as a first step. A 2006 Cochrane review of 17 trials in 1,811 children with gastroenteritis found that treatment failed 4 percentage points less often with IV rehydration: for every 25 children treated by mouth, one needed IV instead. The authors found no clinically important differences between the two, with shorter hospital stays with oral rehydration, and more phlebitis (vein inflammation) with IV. They rated the trials poor to moderate in quality.

Hartling et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (2006)
  • Why Children Are at Greater Risk

Children have more skin surface relative to their body weight than adults, which puts them at greater risk of dehydration. A 2015 BMJ summary of UK guidance on IV fluids for children notes that children presenting with dehydration need prompt assessment, and that appropriate IV fluid selection is critical for safe rehydration.

D'Anci et al., Nutrition Reviews (2006); Neilson et al., BMJ (2015)
  • Oral Rehydration vs IV

Oral rehydration. Water taken by mouth has to leave the stomach and be absorbed by the gut before it reaches the blood.

IV rehydration. Fluid enters a vein directly.
