Losing vision, or vision changes that are not part of your usual aura
A fever with a stiff neck, or a rash that does not fade under a pressed glass
Confusion, unusual drowsiness, or a seizure along with the headache
A headache that started after a blow to the head in the last 3 months
Health check
Your nurse or NREMT asks about your health, medications and allergies before the drip starts. If any of these apply, say so then: each one matters with what's in this bag.
Kidney disease. Even a mild diagnosis is worth raising at the health check: Toradol and the magnesium both rely on your kidneys.
Ulcers, bleeding or blood thinners. A past stomach ulcer or bleeding, or a blood thinner you take, matters here: Toradol can raise bleeding risk, so tell your clinician.
Asthma or hives from aspirin. If aspirin-type pain relievers have ever set off your asthma or caused hives, say so: Toradol is in that same family.
Heart rhythm or antidepressants. Mention a heart rhythm problem or an antidepressant: both matter with Zofran, and a heart rhythm problem with the magnesium too.
Pregnancy or nursing. If you're pregnant or nursing, your clinician checks first: Toradol is avoided later in pregnancy, and Benadryl while nursing.
Drowsiness and driving. Benadryl can make you drowsy, so don't plan to drive afterward, and mention glaucoma or trouble passing urine at the check.

Other drips

The science
IV medicines are used in emergency care to treat migraine attacks (Robblee, 2025). What a drip does is simpler: it delivers fluid and medicine by vein.
An attack can bring throbbing pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound at the same time. Most people with migraine have nausea with at least some of their attacks.
Dehydration can make a headache worse, migraine included. IV fluid given during a migraine attack hasn't been shown to improve the pain.
Low magnesium has been linked to migraine, although that link is an association rather than proof that one causes the other. Magnesium also blocks the NMDA receptor on nerve cells, a receptor involved in pain signaling.
