Storing your vial
Store the vial exactly as its label directs, in its labeled packaging, upright and out of direct light. Never the freezer and never the fridge door. Keep it where children and pets cannot reach it. After a power cut or a long spell out of storage, call before dosing rather than guessing, and never use a vial that is cloudy, discolored, has particles, or is past its beyond use date.
Giving yourself a dose
Wash your hands and set out a swab, a new syringe, and your written schedule. Swab the vial stopper, let it air dry, and draw exactly the amount your provider specified. Use one of the sites your nurse showed you, at the angle and depth you were taught, and rotate sites each dose rather than using the same spot twice in a row. Inject slowly, apply light pressure with a clean swab without rubbing, then log the dose and the site. Stop and call if you notice spreading redness, swelling, warmth, hives, or any trouble breathing. For a medical emergency call 911.
Sharps disposal
The used syringe goes straight into the sharps container after the dose. Never recap, bend, or reuse a needle, and never put sharps in household trash or recycling. Keep the container upright and closed between uses, stop filling at the fill line, then close the lid permanently and take it to an approved Nevada collection site, or ask your nurse and we will arrange collection.
